Iorwerth Drwyndwn

Iorwerth Drwyndwn (Welsh flat nose; actually Iorwerth from Owain; † around 1174 ) was a prince of the Welsh Kingdom of Gwynedd. He was the father of Llywelyn from Iorwerth.

Iorwerth was the eldest son of Owain Gwynedd and his first wife Gwladus, a subsidiary of Llywarch ap Trahern. Presumably he was excluded because of a physical impairment of the succession. After the death of his father he inherited the dominion of Arfon and Nanconwy, but soon began between the brothers and half-brothers, fierce battles for the succession. The exact circumstances of Iorwerths death are not known, he probably died when his half-brother Dafydd to 1173 seized power in North Gwynedd. Presumably, he was buried in the church of Pennant Melangell in Powys.

He was married to Marared, Madog ap Maredudd of a daughter of Powys. His son Llywelyn from Iorwerth was born around 1173. His wife could probably flee with her son to her family in Powys.
