Ipke Wachsmuth

Ipke Wachsmuth ( born March 27, 1950) is a German researcher in the fields of artificial intelligence and cognitive science.

Wachsmuth is Professor of Knowledge-Based Systems ( Artificial Intelligence ) at the University of Bielefeld and teaching there since 1989, computer science and artificial intelligence. From 2002 to 2009 he was executive director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research ( ZiF ) of the University. His research focuses on human-machine interaction and virtual reality.

Known in the art Wachsmuth was including through the combination of classic symbolic techniques of knowledge representation with elements of dynamic gestures and facial expressions. This is for example in the development of the avatar MAX expression. Wachsmuth is also since the 1990s, a driving force behind the Interdisciplinary College, an annual spring school in the fields of neuroscience, cognitive science, artificial intelligence and philosophy.
