Bathypterois sp.

The compound eyes fish ( Ipnopidae ) are deep-sea fishes from the order of lizard fish relatives ( Aulopiformes ). They live in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans on the floor due to the deep sea.

Features

Compound eyes fish will be 12 to 38 inches long. They are slim bottom dwellers. Their scales are large, well- developed lateral line organ. The lower jaw protrudes further out than the maxilla. The number of Branchiostegalstrahlen is 8 to 17, which have the vertebrae 44 to 80 Full-grown network eye fish eye no gills gland ( pseudobranch ). Pylorusschläuche missing.

Fins formula: Dorsal 8-16, 7-19 anal, pectoral 9-24.

For species of the first four classes listed below the eyes are stunted or overgrown with skin. In the genus Ipnops the eyes have no lenses. They are directed upwards.

The 19 species of the tripod fish ( Bathypterois ) have extended fin rays to the breast and pelvic fins and the lower part of the tail fin. You can stand on their pelvic fins and caudal fin rays as a tripod on the sea bed and lie in wait for prey.
