Ippon

Ippon [ ip on ː ] (Jap.一 本) is a Japanese term for 'one'. It is a feature of the Japanese language that number words can be changed with a Zählersuffix, which depends on the shape of the counted object. Hon / Bon / Pon is a Zählersuffix for elongated things as bottles, fingers or pens. 一( ichi ) and本( hon ) are thus drawn together to一 本( Ippon ). What is meant by Ippon depends on the context.

Budō

In the Budo martial arts and sports such as Judo, Kendo and Karate Ippon means a point or goal in the competition:

Jūdō

An Ippon in judo always mean an instant win for the judoka, making it the highest possible rating. It is awarded for a technically clean litter or a continuously running for 25 seconds holding technique. Karate
