Ipsach ( in local dialect [ ipsə ] ) is a village with his own municipality and civic community in the administrative district of Biel / Bienne in the Swiss canton of Bern.

Geography

The village is situated on the right bank of Lake Biel. The neighboring municipalities are in the north for IC- Port BE and Bell mouth in the east, as well as Sutz- Lattrigen in the south.

History

The constant presence of people in today's municipal area since the Neolithic period is occupied by numerous findings; for the Roman period a fixed settlement is clearly demonstrated. Testifies documented the village for the first time in 1265 / '66 as Origin of the name Bertholdus de Ipzacho. Its name is attributed to a derivation from a Latin personal name Ebidius / Ebetius / Aebutius with the Celtic Ortsnamensuffix -akos/-acum.

Population

Ipsach is 86.89 % to a German -speaking congregation. 8.8% are French.

Policy

The voter shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 29.6 %, SP 22.7 %, BDP 14.0 %, FDP 12.5 %, GPS 7.1 %, glp 6.6 %, EPP 2.1 %, CVP 1.8 %, EDU 1.3 %, pirates 1.0 %.
