Iraj Afshar

Iraj Afshar (Persian ایرج افشار, DMG Īraǧ Afsar; born October 8, 1925 in Tehran, † March 9, 2011 in Tehran ) was a lawyer, historian, Library Scientists and Iranist.

Life

Iraj Afshar was born on 8 October 1925 as the son of Dr. Mahmoud Afshar and his wife Nosrat Barazandeh in Tehran. He first visited the Zoroastrian aligned Shapour High School and then later the Firouz Bahram High School in Tajrish - in Tehran. From 1945 to 1949 he studied law at the University of Tehran. After studying Iraj Afshar worked as a teacher at Sharif and later in the Gharib -Gymnasium. In 1952 he published the magazine Farhang -e Mohammad- Taqi Irānzamin along with Danesh - Pajouh, Manouchehr Sotoudeh, Mostafa Mogharrabi, Abbas Zaryab Khoye. From 1954 he was editor of the journal Sokhan, edited by Dr. Parviz Natel - Khanlari.

Iraj Afshar 1954, Director at Bongah -e Tarjomeh va Nashr -e Ketab and director of the periodical Ketābhāy Mah -e ( Book of the Month ). After training in library science within the framework of a UNESCO program Afshar founded the Bāshgāh -e Ketab (Book Club ), the Ketab later in Anjoman -e (Book Society) was renamed. From 1958 Lehte Afshar Library Science at the University of Tehran. At the same time he became chief editor of the magazine Rāhnamāy -e Keta, edited by Ehsan Yarshater. In 1961 he founded together with Mohammad- Taqi Danesh - Pajouh the magazine Nashriyeh noskhehāy -e Khatti ( Journal of manuscripts ).

In 1962, Afshar for a short time the Directorate of Iran's National Library, but returned to the University of Tehran, there to take over the management of the Institute for Cataloguing and indexing research. In 1963 he went for a year at Harvard University, there to reorganize the form and content development Persian books.

From 1965 Iaraj Afshar resumed his teaching at the University of Tehran and also became director of the Central Library of the University. He was also editor of the journal Ketābdāri (Publications of the University of Tehran ). From 1969 on he was a professor in history at the University of Teheran, which he held until 1979.

After the Islamic Revolution Iraj Afshar retired from the University of Tehran and gave the magazine Ayandeh 1926 founded by his father Mahmoud Afshar in 1929 but reinstated ( future ) new out. The magazine was published until 1994. A year after the death of his father, Iraj Afshra founded the Dr. Mahmoud Afhsar Foundation and published a magazine Nāmvāreh -e Dr. Mahmoud Afshar, which was later renamed in Pajouhesh- haye Irani (Journal of Iranian Studies ), out.

In 1989, he taught for a year at the University of Bern. 1998 Iraj Afhsar went to the Austrian National Library, there to take on the cataloging and subject cataloging of Persian manuscripts. In 2001 he published a magazine Daftar -e Tarikh ( Small Manuscripts) out.

Iraj Afshar died on March 9, 2011 in Tehran. He was married to Shayesteh Afsharieh since 1945. Of their four sons were born.
