History

U19 ( 1969-2007 )

The original competition ( for Junior U19) was founded in 1969 as a Junior Champion from the International Rugby Association FIRA to life (ie, the Fédération Internationale de Rugby Amateur). Another common name was FIRA Cup. According to the membership structure initially participated only teams from Europe as well as Morocco and Tunisia. The venues were limited to 1996 to this geographical area. After the accession or association of countries from overseas especially Argentina showed to be very successful.

From the year 1992, the competition was jointly organized by the FIRA and the IRB and renamed Rugby World Youth Championship.

An increasing number of members of the two world organizations also led to a growing field of competitors at the Junior World Championships, so that in 1995 per a B- and C- group were introduced, with promotion and relegation between the divisions. The C group was divided in 1996 for one year, in 1998 formed a D group, this in turn divided in 1999. In 2000, C- and D- group were again abolished and made the valid until 2007 breakdown in Division A and B.

After the FIRA had been constituted in 1999 as a European continental federation of the IRB and renamed FIRA -AER, she withdrew even from the organization worldwide competitions: the World Youth Championship U19 was from 2004 to 2007 alone carried out by the IRB and from 2008 by the U20 - WM replaced.

The first U21 tournament took place in 1995, organized by the SANZAR and the UAR, a joint Association of South Africa, New Zealand and Australia as well as that of Argentina. Participants were until 1997, the four teams of the associations involved. 1998 England was invited for the first time, in 1999 France, Scotland and Wales, so that the tournament was held in two preliminary round groups of four teams. 2000 replaced Samoa and Tonga, the teams from France and Wales. 2001 returned to France and Ireland took part for the first time. Finally, in 2002 took over the International Rugby Board, the organization and increased the number of participants initially to 16. 2007 fell out of the competition and was replaced in 2008 by the World Youth Championship U20.
