Ireland for Europe

Ireland for Europe is a non-governmental organization that was established after the failure of the Irish referendum on the Nice Treaty and stood up for the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.

Two campaigns

The first campaign of Ireland for Europe was first then conducted under the chairmanship of Adrian Langan, since October, 2001 by Ciarán Toland. Later, Michelle O'Donnell (Secretary ) and Kevin Byrne ( Campaign Director) led the team. In August 2002, Ireland for Europe joined the Irish Alliance for Europe. The end of 2002 it ceased its activities.

In June 2009, a new organization of the same name with Pat Cox was founded as campaign director. Their goal was the positive influence of the performed October 2, 2009 the second Irish referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon. To this end, Cox resigned from his position as President of the European Movement International Campaign to end back. Ireland for Europe was the largest among the numerous citizens groups that campaigned for the contract, and had prominent supporters such as the Nobel Prize winner Seamus Heaney and U2 guitarist The Edge. The referendum in October 2009 ended with an agreement of 67.1 % on the Lisbon Treaty.
