Irén Lovász

Iren Lovasz is a Hungarian folk singer.

Life and career

Lovász studied Linguistics and Literature. From 1987 to 1995 she worked as an ethnomusicologist at the Ethnographic Museum Budapest and heard next lectures on Ethnology. Since the 1980s, she was active in the dance -house movement and won Folk Music Competitions in Hungary, Wales and Finland.

1995 was commissioned by the Hungarian National Museum her first solo CD Világfa with music by László Hortobágyi. For their 1996 released CD Rosebuds in a Stone Yard, she received the German Critics' Prize in the genre Folk / World music. She worked as a soloist in groups for Early Music, interpreted contemporary compositions and has performed with jazz musicians like the guitarist Ferenc Snétberger. In 1997 she performed at the largest festival of folk and world music, dance and Folk Festival in Rudolstadt in Thuringia, on.

Between 1998 and 2003 she was a member of the group Makam. After Compositions by Zoltán Krulik albums skanzen (1999), 9 Colinda (2001) and Sinbad (2002) emerged. The Estonian composer Peeter Vähi wrote for them the music for the CD Supreme Silence ( 2000) on Tibetan and Sanskrit texts.

As of 1999, Lovász was some years a member of the folk group Teagrass with which, in 2000, the album Wide is the Danube was born. From 2001 she performed with the lutenist István Kónya on with a program of Hungarian Renaissance music and starred in a musical meditation project with bassist Attila Lõrinszky with. In 2003 she was awarded the Hungarian radio as a singer of the year. 2005 appeared the CD Cloud doors.

Since then she has published on her own label SIREN VOICES a new music series, Healing Voices. Sacred Voice (2006) and Inner Voice (2007) have already appeared in this series. Auchenflower in Love ( 2008) is at SIREN VOICES as published as well as the revision of Világfa ( 2009).
