Irene Bedard

Irene Bedard ( born July 22, 1967 in Anchorage, Alaska ) is an American actress and voice actress who became famous in particular for representations of Native American characters.

Life

Private life

Irene Bedard's mother is of Inupiat Eskimo origin, her father is French-Canadian and Cree Indian descent. In 1993 she married the singer Denny Wilson, with whom she has a son, Quinn Wilson. In 2010, separated from her husband, whom she accused of years of abuse. There was a dispute over the guardianship of her son. After living in the USA, she now lives in Alaska.

Career

Her first major role was in 1994 in the TV movie Lakota Woman: Siege at Wounded Knee as a Lakota Indian Mary Crow Dog, for which she was awarded the Golden Globe. For the Walt Disney animated films Pocahontas and Pocahontas 2 - Journey to a new world, she borrowed the title heroine of her voice. Located in the historic Western Crazy Horse 1996 she portrayed a woman of Black Buffalo. In the rotated entirely by Native / First Americans film Smoke Signals 1997, she played the role of Suzy Song. In 2004, she received one of the American Indian LA Film and TV Awards for Best Actress for her role in the film Greasewood Flat. In 2005, she played in the movie The New World Pocahontas mother NoNoma. Another appearance was in 2011 awarded the Palme d'Or feature film The Tree of Life by Terrence Malick.
