Irene Dische
Irene Dische ( born February 13, 1952 in New York ) is a German - American writer. My family background is both Jewish and Catholic.
Life and work
Dische was the daughter of the biochemist Zacharias Dische ( Dische sample) and the biochemist, physician and Gerichtspathologin Renate Rother in New York and grew up there as well. By 1969, the seventeen year old then went as hitchhiker on a trip around the world. From 1970 to 1972 worked for the Dische paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey in East Africa. Upon her return she studied at Harvard University and published first reports in The New Yorker and The Nation. 1977 drew Irene Dische to Berlin, where she lives today mainly alongside Rhinebeck, New York. Dische is married to the German criminal defense lawyer Nicolas Becker. The couple has two children. Hans Magnus Enzensberger is considered Dische German discoverers and promoters.
1989 Dische became known for his published under the title Pious Lies collection of stories for the first time a major literary interested audience. Since then translated from English stories were often low, sometimes even exclusively in German language to spread. Often drew Reinhard Kaiser responsible for the translation. 1990 saw the story The Doctor needs a home. 1993 published Dische with a strange feeling or changes over a German her first novel. Esterházy, they published together with Hans Magnus Enzensberger and Michael Sowa (as artist), was Dische's first children's book. 1986 turned Dische her first film, the documentary Zacharias about her father. Followed in 2000 with a job in the first detective novel.
Dische's novel Grandmama unpacks the end of 2005 was reprinted in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in sequels.
In Berlin she took in 1990 to the émigré pianist Anatol Ugorski, she opened the way to the late international career. His interpretation of Beethoven's Diabelli Variations inspired to the novel A strange feeling.
Dische in 1989 was awarded the German Critics Prize. In 1991 she became the first winner of the Jeanette Schocken price.

According Dische the autobiographical novel should Grandmama unpacks originally entitled The Biography of Irene Dische wear, had the figure of the narrator of the novel, Dische's grandmother Elisabeth Rother, acts as an author. Since this variant was found to be impractical, Dische resorted to a title proposal Enzensberger, which the book received its present title.
