Irene Meichsner
Meichsner Irene (* 1952 in Bonn ) is a German science journalist and author. She works regularly among other things for the Kölner Stadt Anzeiger and as a freelance journalist.
Training
Meichsner studied philosophy and history in Cologne and Freiburg and received his PhD in 1982 in Philosophy with a thesis on the "logic of common places," at the University of Cologne, Dr. phil. Dietmar Peil evaluated from literary studies to work as a quite stimulating and invigorating, but criticized for omissions metaphor theoretical literature and casual basic arguments as to the mechanism of action of the metaphor itself.
Working as a freelance journalist
Since 1981 she works as a freelance journalist in Cologne. Since 1990, she oversees the science side of the Kölner Stadt Anzeiger. Some of her published books take on contributions from their journalistic work.
Report on the debate about Elisabeth Ströker
Nationwide notoriety she gained in 1990, when a Meichsners report on the allegations of plagiarism by Marion Soreth against a colleague, the well-known Cologne philosopher Elisabeth Ströker under the title "Pretty stolen" in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit published. With Gerd Rosenkranz and Manfred Kriener she sat down in 1992 deals with the public relations of the operators of nuclear power. An article by Irene Meichsner in the Frankfurter Rundschau (FR) on alleged errors in the IPCC report on climate change has been withdrawn by the FR after a complaint by Stefan Rahmstorf again .. About this ostensible success Rahmstorf reported, among others, the New York Times. Because of a blog post to Rahmstorf sued Meichsner the 2011 climate scientists and government advisers successful injunction. The conflict was among other things the subject of an exchange of articles and comments with the science press conference, the Association of Science Journalists and their editor in chief Markus Lehmkuhl.
Award
Meichsner was awarded the 2005 Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize for Science Journalism.
