Irene of Tomar

Irene of Portugal (also Irenaea, Spanish and Portuguese Iria or Eyria; † 653 at Thomar ) is a saint of the Catholic Church.

According to tradition, it is said to have lived at Thomar ( Nabentia ) in a Novodevichy Convent and there on the river Nabão have been murdered by order of a rejected suitor ( Nabanis ). She was ordained in the small town of Santa Irene on the Camino de Santiago in the province of A Coruña the Autonomous Community of Galicia in the 18th century a chapel. Also in the Portuguese city Scalabis, today Santerèm where her body was thrown into the river washed ashore undamaged, one named after her basilica was built. there she was with the time Lokalmärtyrin. It is represented with a palm tree, her feast day is October 20. It is possible that their representation overlaps with the Irene of Thessaloniki.
