Irene Pepperberg

Irene Maxine Pepperberg ( born April 1, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American scientist at Brandeis University in Waltham (Massachusetts ).

After schooling, she studied chemistry and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc.) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in 1971 with a Master of Arts (MA) at Harvard University from. In 1976 she graduated as Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D.) in Chemical Physics also at Harvard University.

Your work area are the basics of language and communication. They studied, inter alia, the differences in brain function between mammals and birds.

Irene Pepperberg's studies with the African Grey Parrot Alex regarded as a milestone in language research. Alex's vocabulary as well as the targeted application have the same led to a reassessment of the cognitive abilities of birds. Alex's ability to recognize and apply the meaning of words, are considered by the researcher to be comparable to that of a two year old child.
