Iriney Santos da Silva

Iriney Santos da Silva, short Iriney ( born April 23, 1981 in Humaitá ) is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Watford FC in the English Football League Championship. Due to his long career as a player in Spain Iriney has now also a Spanish passport.

Playing career

Brazil

Iriney began his career as a footballer in his Brazilian homeland with Nacional Manaus in the season 1998 /99. He then played at Manauense and two years with the Brazilian top club Sao Caetano. The club he left in 2002 to take advantage of his chance in Europe.

Rayo Vallecano

In August 2002 Iriney signed a contract with the Spanish side Rayo Vallecano. The period after the change was initially disappointing for him. Firstly, it was used throughout the season in only 14 games, on the other hand, his new club was relegated as a Table. The following year, Iriney regular player in the Segunda División was and played in 36 games. But for his team, it once again went down a league and so Rayo has passed from the first to the third tier in just two years. Despite all Iriney remained at Madrid suburb club, but left that after the failed attempt to chances of promotion.

Celta Vigo

In the summer of 2005 Iriney joined the newly promoted Premiership Celta Vigo. The Galicians, he fought his way to a permanent place in La Liga and reached with his team in the UEFA Cup. In the season 2006/2007 Iriney scored his first goal in La Liga with a 1-1 away to Racing Santander. But again, the Brazilian rose with his team in the Segunda División. Finally, in the preparation phase, it came to a head, as Iriney despite valid contract with refused to go in the second league. So it was that the midfielder was indeed deleted for Celta from the player squad, but there was no release to another club.

The last years

After six months of waiting and, inter alia, the failed move to Racing Santander signed the Brazilian early 2008 until the summer of 2009 a valid contract with newly promoted UD Almería. He made his debut 16 March 2008 in a 2-2 draw against FC Barcelona. After a year in Andalusia in 2009, he went to Real Betis. For the Südspanier he stood in three years in a total of one hundred league games on the court. A one-year stop at the Granada CF followed in 2013, the change to the British Isles to the English second division side FC Watford.
