Iriri River

Location of Rio Iriri in South America

The Rio Iriri is a left tributary of the Rio Xingu in Brazil, and about 1,300 km long.

The river rises in the mountain range of Serra do cachimbo in the north of Mato Grosso near Guarantã do Norte. He then flows first in a northerly direction. After he has been connected with its main tributary, the Rio Curuá its course changes to the east. South of Altamira it empties into the Rio Xingu. The area around the Rio Iriri is sparsely populated. Along the river are partly large clearings, which are caused by the deforestation of the rainforest.
