Iris ter Schiphorst

Iris ter Schiphorst (born 22 May 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German composer, pianist, writer, bass player, drummer and keyboardist. It has emerged as a composer of ensemble compositions, orchestral works and music theater pieces. Her breakthrough came in 1999 with the ballad for orchestra: One hundred point zero. While the idea of the closed plant was breached more and more in the 20th century, the traditional notion of individual authorship function has hardly ever been seriously questioned. In this respect, the exemplary cooperation of great importance comes with their temporary companion, Berlin composer Helmut Oehring to in a variety of co-productions.

Biography

The children's desire to be a dancer, was thwarted by a disease. Her mother was a pianist, and gave her first piano lessons. From 1973 to 1978 she studied piano at the Bremen Musikhochschule. After numerous trips through Europe and Africa ( 1978-80 ), she played as a bass player, drummer and keyboard player in various rock groups, including the Bremer female band "Seven kick the can." From the year 1986 she studied at the Free University of Berlin, and later at the Humboldt University philosophy, theater and cultural studies. At the same time she attended composition classes with Dieter Schnebel and Luigi Nono. and musicological seminars at Helga de la Motte -Haber. In the late 1980s she founded with Mayako Kubo, Frank Hilberg, Franz Martin Olbrisch and other time the club music. In 1990, the founding of the specialized live electronic music ensembles intrors followed. Since 1996 she has worked with the Berlin composer and former partner Helmut Oehring.

Iris ter Schiphorst was elected at the Spring Meeting of the Academy of Arts in Berlin on 25 May 2013 as the new member in the music section.
