Irish Damselfly
Moon damselfly ( Coenagrion lunulatum ), male
The Moon Azure Damselfly ( Coenagrion lunulatum ) is a dragonfly of the family Coenagrionidae ( Coenagrionidae ).
Features
The Moon Azurjungfer reaches a wingspan of about 3.5 inches. The males have a black and blue coloration on the thorax and the abdomen segments, creating a likelihood of confusion with other Azurjungfern there.
Distribution and habitat
The Moon Azurjungfer lives primarily on nutrient-poor bog waters, rarely in bogs, primarily in Northern Europe, but rarely in the Alps.
Way of life
The flight time of this dragonfly falls into May to mid-June. The animals live mainly in the riparian vegetation, where the mating takes place and mating gears may be encountered. The eggs are inserted by the female, especially in the submerged leaves of wool grass, while it is in tandem position with the male. Both appear together and can stay under water with the aid of a body enveloping bubble up to half an hour. The larvae hide in floating plant parts.
Endangering
The Moon Azurjungfer is " endangered Stark " because of disappearing habitats by draining as performed in the Red List ( hazard class 2 ).
