Irish Open (Tennis)

The Irish Open (Irish Craobh na hÉireann Oscailte; until 1968 Irish Championships ) are an Irish men's tennis tournament, which is held annually at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in Dublin.

The Irish Open will be played since 1879 and are therefore to Wimbledon (1877 ) is the second-oldest tennis tournament in the world. In particular, in the early decades included the Irish Championships at major tournaments. In 1879, there was held alongside the men's singles and women's singles and also a double - double tournament and a mixed competition; at the Wimbledon Championships men's doubles and women's singles in 1884, women's doubles and mixed doubles were until 1913 part of the official tournament. Traditionally, the Irish Open held after the tournament of Wimbledon.

Although the women's competition from 1971 to 1973 under the name of Carroll 's Irish Open was part of the WTA Tour, the tournament lost after the start of the Open Era in importance. Since 2010, the Lord tournament is part of the ITF Futures Tour. A women's tournament will not take place.
