IRISL Group

The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines ( IRISL ) is a national shipping company of Iran. Its fleet comprises 99 ocean-going vessels (April 2009). This also includes ships from various subsidiaries ( Khazar Shipping, Valfajr, etc.).

History

In view of rising imports to Iran since the early 1960s, was founded in August 1967, the first national shipping company that Aria Shipping Line. Aria Shipping started with two small vessels for regional services and four ocean-going vessels ( Aria Sep, Aria Far, Aria Naz and Aria Gaam ). The end of 1978 there were already 42 ships with a total capacity of 525,000 DWT.

After the Islamic revolution and the resulting political changes, the Aria Shipping was renamed on January 5, 1979 in Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines ( IRISL ) and assigned to the Iranian Ministry of Economy.

During the First Gulf War, some ships ( including Aria Boom, Aria Jahan, Aria Shaad, Aria Omid ) Total losses due to rocket attacks were. This led to a difficult economic situation for the IRISL. From then on, all ships were named after martyrs and cities, each prefixed with " IRAN ".
