Iron-Crutch Li

Tieguai Li (Chinese李铁 拐/李铁 拐, Pinyin lǐ Tiěguǎi, W.-G. Li T'ieh - kuai ) also Tie Guai Li, is a famous Taoist Immortal Chinese mythology. It belongs to the group of the Eight Immortals.

According to legend, Li Tieguai to have been a handsome man who left his body and was able to go to Soul Travel. During one such trip, he commanded his disciples to guard his body and burn it after seven days if he is not back by then. On the last day the student was summoned to his dying mother, and he burned the empty body just before the deadline. Li came back and found his body burned before. He had to quickly find a new body, not to die. Since he found the body of a crippled beggar dead. So he may be found since then in this body, which is why he is often in a bad mood.

Li Tieguai is often depicted with an iron stick and a gourd. He is the patron saint of the sick.
