Ironbridge

Ironbridge is a place next to the Iron Bridge, built in 1779 over the Severn world's first iron bridge, from which the place derives its name. To publicize the bridge, also formerly Severn Gorge called river valley was renamed the Ironbridge Gorge.

The village belongs to the municipality ( civil parish ) The Gorge in the district ( borough ) Telford and Wrekin, a unitary authority ( self authority) in Shropshire, England.

The town quickly became the commercial and administrative center for the surrounding industrial areas such as Coalbrookdale and Madeley and Broseley on the one on the other side of the River Severn. The owners of the bridge also built a hotel to allow the visit of the bridge and the surrounding industrial attractions. The town had a railway connection until 1964, when the great age of the coal and steel industry was over.

1967, the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust was established, a Foundation for the Preservation of the 35 industrial monuments in the Ironbridge Gorge, which are managed by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum. The Ironbridge Gorge Museum is an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

1986 Iron Bridge and the Ironbridge Gorge with its industrial heritage has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
