Irpinia
The Irpinia, German and Irpinia, is a hill and mountain landscape in the Italian region of Campania. It extends east of the city of Avellino in the homonymous province. The Irpinia was particularly hard hit by the earthquake of 23 November 1980.
Many place names in the region lead to additional Irpino or Irpinia, to indicate the location of the place. Examples are:
- Altavilla Irpinia
- Ariano Irpino
- Bagnoli Irpino
- Capriglia Irpina
- Cassano Irpino
- Melito Irpino
- Salza Irpina
- Savignano Irpino
- Volturara Irpina
The most important towns in the Irpinia are Avellino, Ariano Irpino, Mercogliano, Grottaminarda, Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi and Solofra.
