Irsai Olivér

Oliver Irsay ( in Hungary Irsai Olivér ) is a white grape variety. It is a new variety from 1930 by the Hungarian Pál Kocsis Rebzüchter that x Csaba Gyöngye (Pearl of Csaba ) emerged from a cross between Pozsonyi Fehér ( White Pressburger ). Oliver Irsay is mainly in the Hungarian wine regions of Pannonhalma - Sokoróalja, South -Balaton (South- Balaton ), Mátraalja, Ászár - Neszmély common. It is also grown in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria (mainly in Burgenland). The wine is fruity with a distinct, vegetative nutmeg.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is slightly woolly hairy and greenish- white color. The bright green young leaves are covered spinnwebig.
  • The leaves are five-lobed and sinuate strong. The petiole is U-shaped open. The blade is serrated blunt. The teeth are medium in size compared to the varieties.
  • The cone - shaped to cylindrical grape is thick but short and lockertbeerig. The roundish berries are small to medium in size and of a golden yellow color. The berries have a slight muscat flavor, which they pass on to the wine.

Oliver Irsay ripens a few days before the Chasselas. It is thus considered very early maturing. The powerfully built strain grew provides steady returns.
