Irshad Manji

Irshad Manji ( born 1968 in Uganda ) is a Canadian author, journalist and activist against Islamism.

Life

Irshad Manji was born in 1968 as the daughter of an Indian father and an Egyptian woman in Uganda. The family moved to Canada three years later, when the dictator Idi Amin expelled all South Asians from Uganda.

Irshad Manji is a national of Twelver Shi'ism, avowed feminist and lesbian. Accordingly, their journalistic activity directed primarily against the oppression of women and homosexuals in the Islamic society. Her book The Awakening ( engl.
