Irving Brecher

Irving Brecher ( born January 17, 1914 in New York City; † November 17, 2008 in Los Angeles ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

Brecher, who was born in the Bronx, wrote as a teenager jokes among other things, Ed Sullivan. At 19, he worked as Gagautor for the comedian Milton Berle, later for Jackie Gleason and George Burns. After moving to Hollywood, he worked as one of the countless unnamed authors of The Wizard of Oz During filming, he met Groucho Marx know. Then he wrote the screenplays for two films of the Marx Brothers At the Circus (1939) and Go West ( 1940). The script of At the Circus contains with " Achoo! " the only word that was ever said of Harpo Marx in one of their common movies. The following year he wrote one of the sequels of The Thin Man, The Shadow of the Thin Man and Du Barry Was a Lady with Lucille Ball and Gene Kelly in the lead roles. Being and Fred F. Finklehoffes screenplay for Meet Me in St Louis with Judy Garland in the lead role was in 1945 nominated for an Oscar.

Conceived by breaker radio series The Life of Riley was later adapted into a feature film and a television series, and 1949 was the first sitcom of the U.S. television.

Breaker was twice married, after the death of his first wife in 1981, he married again in 1983.
