Irving Saladino

Irving Saladino ( born January 23, 1983 in Colon ) is a Panamanian athlete who was 2007 World Champion and 2008 Olympic champion in the long jump.

Life

At the Junior World Championships in 2002 Saladino did not reach the final battle in the long jump with 7.30 meters in tenth. 2003 in Barquisimeto in the South American Championships he won with 7.46 meters bronze. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he was in his qualifying group with 7.42 meters and a total of 18 36 of qualification. Mt 8,12 meters he could skip the first time in 2004, the eight meter mark. In August 2008, Saladino won gold in the long jump at the Olympic Games in Beijing. With 8.34 meters, he took over in the fourth attempt the lead ahead of Godfrey Mokoena Khotso and held the lead until the end of the competition. With this jump, he won the first gold medal for Panama in the Olympic Games and the first medal ever since the two bronze medals from Lloyd LaBeach 1948.
