Irwin Gage

Irwin Gage ( born September 4, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio ) is an American pianist and accompanist.

Biography

Gage studied piano, musicology and literature at the universities of Michigan and Yale, then, among others, Erik Werba, at the Vienna Music Academy. He has appeared as a soloist pianist in appearance, but especially demand as an accompanist of singers and song - singers such as Elly Ameling, Gundula Janowitz, Christa Ludwig, Walter Berry, Dietrich Fischer- Dieskau, Peter Schreier, Brigitte Fassbaender and Jessye Norman. From his work with the international singer Elite numerous recordings have emerged, many of which were awarded prizes.

Gage was from 1979 to 2005 Head of a class of song interpretation at the University for Music and Theater Zurich. He was also appointed to a professorship for song interpretation at the Saarbrücken Musikhochschule in 2001, where he initiated a nationwide unique program " Song Duo".

Irwin Gage gives master classes in Europe, Japan and the USA. He is a consultant and artistic director of the concert series at various houses, among other things, the Cologne Philharmonie. He sits in many juries for singing, song duo, chamber music or solo piano at international music competitions.
