Irwin McIntosh

Cameron Irwin McIntosh ( born July 1, 1926 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan; † 24 September 1988) was a Canadian publisher. From 1978 to 1983 he was vice- governor of the province of Saskatchewan.

Biography

The son of liberal House of Representatives Cameron Ross McIntosh studied at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1952 he took over from his father the management of the publishing house McIntosh Publishing, which published several newspapers. Governor General Jules Léger sworn him on 22 February 1978 as the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.

At the beginning of his tenure saw McIntosh for a controversy when he publicly spoke out for the death penalty and was therefore criticized by Allan Blakeney. The strained relationship to the provincial government improved again when he actively participated in the organization of the 75 - year celebration of Saskatchewan. In 1980 he took before the reopening of the Government House ( the official residence of the Lieutenant-Governor ), which had been closed in 1944 for reasons of economy. The building is now used again for ceremonial purposes, but not as a residence. McIntosh remained until July 6, 1983 at the office.
