Isa Khan

Isha Khan ( Bengali ঈশা খাঁ ISA Kha; * August 18, 1529, † September 17, 1599 ) was the political and military leaders of the Baro Bhuiyans, an alliance of 12 regional rulers in medieval Bengal. He ruled the place Sonargaon in East Bengali plains.

During his reign, he made the slowly expanding Mughal Empire fierce resistance, especially in 1584-86 battles against Shahbaz Khan Kamboh, the general of the Mughal emperor Akbar, and in 1594 against Man Singh. After Isa Khan's natural death was succeeded by his son Musa Khan, who had to submit to the Mughal Empire in 1610.

Isha Khan's first wife was Fatema Khan from the dynasty of Hussein Shah. Later, he also married Sarna Moi, the daughter of the king of Sripur which took the name Sona Bibi after her conversion to Islam.

He was honored with a Bangladeshi Taka 4- stamp 1992.
