Isaac de Benserade

Isaac de Benserade (* 1612/1613 in Lyons- la -Forêt, † October 19th 1691 in Paris) was a French poet at the court of the Sun King Louis XIV

Benserade studied theology at the Sorbonne. He was a typical representative of the court culture of his time. The very popular favorite was patronized by Richelieu, Mazarin and Louis XIV. He wrote poems for the accompanying royal ballet performances in the Palace of Versailles by the composer Jean -Baptiste Lully. Together with his rival Vincent Voiture he was the chief representative of the then flourishing preciousness.
