Isaac Hirsch Weiss

Eisik Hirsch Weiss ( Isaac or Yitzhak Deer White etc.; born February 9, 1815 in Great Meseritsch, Moravia, † June 1, 1905 in Vienna) was a Jewish scholar, researcher Talmud ( Talmud critic), historian and enlightener, lecturer at the bet ha - Midrash in Vienna.

Life and work

He wrote a basic historical-critical history of the rabbinic tradition of the Talmud to Shulchan Aruch: dor dor we- dorschaw (about: generation after generation and its scholars; five volumes, 1871-1891 ).

He received his Jewish education in various yeshivot Moravia, especially in Trebitsch and Eisenstadt, which were already under the influence of the Enlightenment.
