Isaäc J. H. Isbrücker

Isaäc JH Isbrücker (* 1944) is a retired Dutch ichthyologist, which deals in particular with the scientific classification of the South American catfish ( Loricarioidea ).

Life and work

Isaäc Isbrücker was 1960-1985 aquarium keepers in the Amsterdam Zoo. He then headed the fish collection of the Zoological Museum in Amsterdam, which was converted in the Naturalis in Leiden in 2011. Isbrücker has ( partly as co-author) published from 1969 to 2006 more than 80 publications in which he scientifically newly described about a dozen fish species, including the genus Hypancistrus. His work focuses on the taxonomy of the armored catfish.

In his honor, a cichlid ( Crenichla isbrueckeri Ploeg, 1991 ), a pleco ( Hypostomus isbrueckeri rice, Weber & Malabarba, 1990) and catfish ( Corydoras isbrueckeri Knaack, 2004) have been designated.
