Isaac Viciosa

Isaac Viciosa ( born December 26, 1969 in Cervatos de la Cueza in the province of Palencia ) is a former Spanish athlete. At a height of 1.76 m his competition weight was 64 kg.

1992 occupied Viciosa at the European Indoor Championships in Genoa in 3:43,23 min fourth place in the 1500 -meter run. After he had retired at the World Championships in 1993 in the lead, Isaac Viciosa succeeded in 1994, the breakthrough to the European top. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 1994, he won in 3:36,01 min silver behind compatriot Fermín Cacho in 3:35,27 min.

At the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona in 1995 Viciosa started in 3000 -meter run and finished second in 8:01,00 min eighth. At the World Championships in Gothenburg, he reached the final of the 1500 meters, was there then but in 3:41,12 minutes only twelfth and last. In 1995 he also won the mile run at the 5th Avenue in New York City in 3:47,8 min. This time he could never achieve on the track. Viciosa won the mile run at the 5th Avenue in the following years up to and including 1998.

At the Olympic Games in 1996 Viciosa ran in the semifinals 3:36,11 min and missed the finals by five hundredths of a second over the Dutch Marko Koers. At the 1997 World Championships as well Viciosa different from the semi-finals.

In 1998 he occupied at the world championships in cross-country running on the short distance eleventh place and was with the Spanish team's fourth. In the summer Viciosa improved his personal best over 1500 meters, was a European record over 3000 meters and debuted at the International Sports Festival in Rome on the 5000 -meter track where he min immediately reached a world -class time with 13:09,63. At the European Championships in Budapest, then he stepped up to about 5000 meters. In relatively slow way past the final, he won with his final sprint title in 13:37,46 min ahead of his compatriot Manuel Pancorbo.

At the 1999 World Championships in Seville and 2001 in Edmonton, he reached the final of each over 5000 meters, but could not prevail against the African competition decisive and showed places 13 (1999 ), and 14 ( 2001).

2002 won Isaac Viciosa finally has a World Cup medal. As a 14 on the short distance he was instrumental in that the Spanish team won the bronze medal behind the teams from Kenya and Ethiopia.
