Isabel Sanford

Eloise Gwendolyn Sanford ( born August 29, 1917 in New York City, New York; † 9 July 2004 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actress. It was primarily for her role as Louise " Weezy " Jefferson in All in the Family (1971-1975) and The Jeffersons (1975-1985) known.

Career

Sanford was born in New York City, New York, the daughter of parents James Edward Sanford and Josephine Perry. She was the first African-American actress, an Emmy Award ( for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1981 ) won Best Actress. Sanford has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was a member of the Sorority "Alpha Kappa Alpha " and received an honorary doctorate of Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1967, she made her film debut in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner in the role as a maid Tillie Binks.

Sanford died on 9 July 2004 on a cardiac arrest and a heart disease at Cedars -Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. She was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
