Isabelle Duchesnay

Isabelle Duchesnay ( born December 18, 1963 in Aylmer, Quebec, Canada ) is a former French figure skater who started in ice dancing.

Biography

Isabelle Duchesnay 1991 world champion in ice dancing with her brother Paul Duchesnay. The siblings grew up in Canada, but had problems in the Canadian Figure Skating Association and therefore represented France. The pair started for the club Patinage Artistique Paris. Their coach was Martin Skotnicky, so they often trained in Oberstdorf. At the choreography often worked with Christopher Dean.

The real breakthrough was achieved by the siblings Duchesnay through the jungle dance, the freestyle of 1988. Even judges were carried away by the unusual choreography. The audience celebrated this performance frenetic. The residue from the mandatory program was indeed too great to win, but that reduction led to the first international medal for the Duchesnays at the European Championships in 1988.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1992 they were favorites. However, the Duchesnays could not against the 1991 world champions Marina Klimova dethroned and Sergei Ponomarenko with their innovative Bach freestyle win in 1992.
