Isak Collijn

Isak Collijn, complete: Isak Gustaf Alfred Collijn ( born July 17, 1875 in Halmstad, † 28 March 1949 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish Inkunabelforscher and poor librarian.

Life and work

Collijn studied from 1893 at the University of Uppsala and was here in 1902 with a thesis on Les suffixes toponymiques dans les langues francaise et Provencale Dr. phil. doctorate. In 1905 he was Research Associate ( amanuens ) at the Lund University Library and then in Uppsala. From 1916 to 1940 he served as imperial librarian, the Swedish Royal Library. From 1922 he was a member of the Kungliga och Vitterhets History Antikvitets academies and from 1924 the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Collijns life's work was the distortion of all Swedish incunabula in several catalogs ( Uppsala University Library, 1907, Linköping Diocesan Library 1909, Royal Library in 1914 and Norrköping City Library 1924). In this context, he found multiple prints from the Baltic Sea region, which were not known before. His results published Collijns in numerous essays. Together with Gustaf Edvard Klemming A. Andersson and he gave from 1927 retrospective bibliographic Nationalbibliogrpahie Sveriges, omfattande tiden 1530-1600 out. He conducted research on the Holy Birgitta of Sweden and from 1924 was editor of the Acta et processus cononizacionis beate Birgitte and Birgittinska gestalter ( 1929). From 1914 Collijn editor of Nordisk tidsskrift för bok -och biblioteksväsen. He was a member of the Society for Typenkunde of the 15th century and the Commission for the Union Catalogue of Incunabula. From 1927 he worked in the International library and bibliographical committee and represented Sweden at several library conferences.

He was married to actress Ellen Appel Berg ( 1878-1960 ).
