Ischemic colitis

Ischemic colitis is a non- infectious inflammation of the intestine due to a diffuse circulatory disorder (ischemia ) is usually rare on the ground of generalized atherosclerosis as a result of an intensive long-term medical therapy with vasoconstrictive drugs.

Clinically, there are painful, muco- bloody diarrhea possibly with paralytic ileus and subsequent peritonitis. With a complete occlusion of the vessel it comes to sg Mesenteric infarction with subsequent necrosis of a part of the intestine.

The disease is initially regarded as reversible. For rehabilitation of hypoperfusion ( vascular surgery or via balloon catheter in atherosclerosis, reduction of intensive care measures), there are good chances of recovery. Is necrosis developed, the affected portion of the intestine can only be removed surgically. In this case, the prognosis is rather poor.
