Ischia di Castro

Ischia di Castro is a municipality with 2404 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Viterbo in the Italian region of Lazio. Until 1872, the municipality of Isola di Castro said.

Geography

Ischia is located 116 km northwest of Rome and 40 km north-west of Viterbo. The medieval town center is located on an elongated Tuffhügel on the southwestern slopes of the Monti Volsini southwest of Lake Bolsena. The community share of the natural park Selva del Lamone. The municipality covers an altitude 73-515 m slm

The neighboring municipalities are Canino, Cellere, Farnese, Manciano ( GR), Pitigliano (GR) and Valentano.

The municipality is located in the seismic zone 3 (slightly endangered).

Traffic

Ischia is on the strada stadale SS 312 Via Castrense that leads from Lake Bolsena to the Via Aurelia at Montalto di Castro, accessible. The nearest train station is in Montefiascone.

Policy

Salvatore Serra ( PdL ) was elected in June 2009 for the mayor. He won the election against his predecessor Bartoccini Pietro ( 2004-2009). His center-right list is also available with 8 of 12 seats, the majority in the City Council.

The ruins of Castro, 1649 destroyed and abandoned capital of the Duchy of Castro located 12km west of the town center.
