Isetnofret

Isetnofret, also Isetnofret I, was the second Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II ( 19th dynasty ).

Origin

About the origin of the Isetnofret is virtually nothing is known. You will never be referred to as King's daughter, so certainly not derived from the royal house. An indication of the name of the first daughter Bintanat, the daughter of Anat means. Since Anat was an Asian goddess from the Syrian region, it is assumed in Egyptology that Isetnofret could possibly have been a Syrian princess. Her two sons were born before the throne, Ramses II, so that the marriage took place before that date.

Family and position

Besides Bintanat, the oldest daughter of the ruler, had the royal couple together nor the daughter Isetnofret and the sons of Ramses, Khaemwaset and Merenptah, the successor of Ramses II She was perhaps the mother of Nebettaui. From Isetnofret are not many circular images and illustrations known. It is rarely shown together with Ramses II. The other hand, her son Khaemwaset so that it can be assumed that she 's lifetime played a minor role and was particularly honored only by her son appears in many representations.

Death

The date of her death is controversial. On a trapezoidal granite block from Medinet Madi both Khaemwaset and the at that time still living Isetnofret to be named, said Khaemwaset bears the title track " Justified ". A detailed temporal allocation can not be inferred because Chamenwaset in conjunction of priestly activities as Horus Iunmutef this predicate titles from the 34th year of the reign of Ramses II ( 1246 BC) wore and thus automatically the epithet of Iunmutef as " Justified " led.

From the 36th year of the reign of Ramses II a stele with a figure of Isetnofret is obtained. She holds a Anchzeichen there in your hand, what could be interpreted as a symbol of deification and allows for the possibility that she was already dead. The grave of Isetnofret is unknown. A Ostracon indicates a burial at the Valley of the Queens. Another possibility is a burial in Saqqara, where her son had Khaemwaset who was her very connected.
