The Ishim in Astana

The 2450 km long Ishim (Russian Ишим, Kazakh Есіл / Esil ) is a left tributary of the Irtysh River in Kazakhstan and Russia ( Asia).

Course

The Ishim originates in Kazakhstan on the northwest edge of the Kazakh threshold and flows back towards the west, where it flows through the Kazakh capital of Astana between representative promenades. In its vicinity the Ishim was dammed to form a reservoir. Further west at Derzhavin the river bends to the north. In its navigable lower course he happened Petropavlovsk and already on Russian territory, the city Ishim. In Ust- Ishim it flows into the Irtysh.

Catchment area and runoff

For the size of its catchment area of 177,000 km ² of the Ishim has a rather low water supply. It is 215 kilometers from the mouth of 56.3 m³ / s ( level Wikulowo ) and a good 35 miles from the mouth of about 83 m³ / s ( level Orechowo ). In Wikulowo a maximum flow of 686 m³ / s was registered. The overflow is in the range of winter cold continental steppes of Central Asia, towards the mouth surrounding the Ishim, the less dry southern taiga. This results in the significant increase in volume of the river declared shortly before the mouth.
