Ishimbay
Ischimbai (Russian Ишимбай; Bashkir Ишембай / Işembaj ) is a city in the Republic of Bashkortostan (Russia) with 66 259 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located on the western edge of the Southern Urals, about 150 km as the crow south of the Republic capital Ufa on the Belaya ( Agidel ), a left tributary of the Kama.
Ischimbai the Oblast is administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
Ischimbai was created in 1932 as oil workers settlement in the vicinity of the well-known since 1815 Bashkir village Ischembai after the first oil Bashkiria had been discovered there.
In 1934 the status of an urban-type settlement was awarded, and on 10 February 1940, the city law.
