Ishkoman Valley

Ishkoman is a high mountain valley in the Hindu Kush and Karakoram mountain range in the northwestern region of the Ghizer District in Pakistan. Ishkoman is connected in Gojal Hunza Valley by a high mountain pass, the Ishkoman - Aghost Pass the Yasin Valley and Chapursan Valley.

The property of the Ishkomantals changed in the history several times. It was under the reign of Mehtar ( princes ) of Chitral, the Maharajas of Kashmir or the Raja of Punyal. Although sparsely populated, Ishkoman was important because the valley leads through a high mountain pass after Yarkhun in Chitral and on over the Broghol pass in the Wakhan corridor of Afghanistan. Mainly the language Khowar, Wakhi, Shina and Burushaski is spoken in this valley. Brushaski is mainly spoken in Barjungle, a place where most of the inhabitants of the valley live. In this valley, many residents of the Hunza Valley who have left this life. They speak Khowar as well as in the southern villages of Ishkomantals and the Wakhi language is also spoken in Gojal Hunza, where the northern Ishkoman dialect occurs.
