Ishtar (Band)

Ishtar is a Belgian folk band. Named has the band after the Babylonian goddess of love, Ishtar.

Ishtar founded in 2003 by guitarist and singer Michel Vangheluwe Soetkin Baptist and consists of a total of ten members. Their debut album TroubAmour they brought out in 2005. The band sings in various Eastern and Western European languages ​​original compositions and adaptations of medieval Minnesänge dating back to the 11th century.

Ishtar won on 9 March 2008 with the song O julissi na jalini the Belgian finals for the Euro Vision Song Contest 2008 and represented the country in May of that year at the international competition. The title consists of a made-up language and has no specific meaning, but should, according to composer Vangheluwe the walk of a child's play through a fairy tale forest.

Two weeks after publication in Belgium on 14 March, the song climbed into the Flemish -Belgian charts at number one. In the first semi-final of the Euro Vision Song Contest 2008 on 20 May 2008 but succeeded Ishtar 17th place not being placed among the top ten posts.
