Isidor Philipp

Isidor (also Isidore ) Edmond Philipp ( born September 2, 1863 in Budapest, † February 20, 1958 in Paris) was a Hungarian pianist and music teacher.

Life and work

Isidore Philipp came as a child to Paris. There he studied piano at the Paris Conservatoire with Georges Mathias, a pupil of Chopin and won in 1883 the final price. At the Conservatory, he met Claude Debussy, with whom he remained close friends until his death. He also studied with Camille Saint- Saëns, Stephen Heller and Liszt pupil Théodore Ritter. In 1890 he made ​​his debut as piano soloist in London.

He founded with Berthelier Henri (1856-1918) on violin and cellist Jules -Léopold Loeb (1852-1933), a chamber music trio with which he toured around ten years through Europe. 1893 Isidore Philipp returned to the Paris Conservatoire to teach himself, where he, as he had acquired French citizenship in 1903, was a full professor and taught until 1934. In addition, he also taught at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau.
