Iskitim

Iskitim (Russian Искитим ) is a town in Novosibirsk Oblast (Russia) with 60 078 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the southeastern part of the West Siberian Plain, approximately 65 km south of the Oblasthauptstadt Novosibirsk, the river Berd, a right tributary of the Ob. The climate is continental.

The city is the Iskitim Oblast administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Iskitim was created in 1933 as a workers' settlement at the cement factory built there, and received city rights in 1938.
