Islam Timurziev

Islam Jachjajewitsch Timursijew (Russian Ислам Яхьяевич Тимурзиев; born January 9, 1983 in Nazran, Ingushetia, Soviet Union ) is a Russian amateur boxer who in 2006 was European champion in super heavyweight.

Career

The 1.86 m wide Superschwergewichtler boxing since 1996. Considered as beating strong and technically good offensive boxer who has coverage weaknesses and sometimes shows condition problems. His first international success was the victory at the European Championships in the age class of the Cadet (U -17) in Baku in 1999. In 2001, he won at the Russian Junior Championships and also secured the super heavyweight title at the European Junior Championships in Sarajevo.

In 2003 he finished second in the championship of Russia took third place and won the title at the Military World Championships in Catania. In 2004, his fellow countryman Alexander Povetkin professional and Timursijew Russian master, and in the following year in Moscow with the Russian national team, World Cup winner. He won there his final duel with the Olympic champion Odlanier Solís just on points.

In 2006, he returned to a cancer in the ring and took part in the European Championships in Plovdiv. As he reached the final after victories against the Italians Roberto Cammarelle and the Bulgarian Kubrat Pulew. In the final battle he won on points against the Finn Robert Helenius. In the finals of the World Cup tournament in 2006 in Baku, he lost prematurely against Cuban Solís. In 2007, he surprisingly lost at the Russian Championships against Denis Sergeev ( 19:22 ).

In 2007, he was nonetheless nominated from Russian Representative for the World Championships in Chicago, reached there easily liked the semi-finals and thus qualified for participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. To his semi-final fight against Roberto Cammarelle he could then, however, due to an acute appendicitis and had to compete not so satisfied with third place.
