Island Press

Iceland Press is an American non-governmental organization (NGO ) with the aim to publish books on the topic of environmental protection and nature conservation and resource management. The publishing program takes a multidisciplinary approach with contributions from natural and social sciences and has the ambition to illuminate issues in the ecological spectrum critical. By its own account, the publisher offers practical and solution- oriented information for decision-makers, experts and interested citizens.

Iceland Press was founded in 1978 in Northern California. Since 1984, reorganized the organization and since then focuses on books on ecological discussions with emphasis on biological diversity, landscape planning, environmental issues in the context of economic globalization and other topics. As part of the reorganization, the organization moved to Washington DC. Shipment is now at the University of Chicago.

Started with a handful of titles on Iceland and three employees, the organization grew to a 30 -person NGO with a 16- member board of directors ( board of directors ). The board is comprised of members from different science and practice areas. Since 1983, Iceland Press sold over 3 million books and became one of the leading publishers of environmental issues. Science and Environment Resource Center ( SERC )

With the Science and Environment Resource Center ( SERC ) brings Iceland Press experts from research and policy together for publicity. SERC is an online database of information from reputable experts who are available for journalists, politicians and other interested parties to answer questions on the most pressing environmental problems. Enter at request interviews, give lectures and are available for nature conservation and environmental events.
