Ismail Sillakh

Ismail Sillach, Ukrainian: Ismayl Sillakh ( born February 9, 1985 in Zaporizhia ) is a Ukrainian boxer.

Amateur career

The son of a Ukrainian and a West African from Sierra Leone began at the age of seven years with the sport of boxing and won 302 of 318 fights. The multiple national champion with impressive clout won the silver medal in the featherweight at the Cadet European Championships in Athens in 2000. He defeated it only in the final against the Romanians Ionut Gheorghe. In the following year he won the welterweight Cadet European Championships in Liverpool by knockout win in the final against the Russians Dmitri Chudinow. The Cadet World Championships the same year in Baku he could win, but he defeated, among others, the Russians Artur Beterbijew and Elchin Alisade from Azerbaijan.

Followed in 2005 by the second place in the middleweight division at the World Championships in Mianyang. By early victories against Nabil Kassel of Algeria, Donatas Bondorovas from Lithuania and Mamadou Diambang from France, as well as a points victory with 28:22 against Mohamed HIKAL from Egypt, he was drafted into the final, where he, however, the Russians Matvey Korobov subject.

In 2006 he started at light heavyweight at the European Championships in Plovdiv. By early victories against David Tsiklauri from Georgia, Andrei Miruk from Belarus, Imre Szello from Hungary and Constantin Bejenaru from Romania, he was drafted into the final, where he lost this time against Artur Beterbijew and thus won the silver medal.

One last important success he achieved at the European Olympic qualification in Italian Pescara, where he was at light heavyweight against Elnur Gadirow from Azerbaijan ( Ko), Igor Conobeew from Moldova ( 34:13 ), Robert surge from Germany ( 25:7 ), Bahram Muzaffer prevailed from Turkey ( Ko) and Ramazan Magomedov of Belarus ( walkover ) and won the tournament.

A subsequent participation in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing was not, however, permitted him because he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs during a doping control and he received a competition suspension of two years thereafter.

He had more appearances at the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Santiago de Cuba ( quarter-final loss to Andy Lee with 19:21 ), the Junior European Championships 2003 in Warsaw ( quarter-final defeat by Yegor Mechonzew ) and the 2007 World Championships in Chicago ( defeat in the first round against Christopher Downs 25:27 ).

  • September 2003: 1st place in the middleweight division at the Black Sea Cup in Ukraine
  • October 2004: 1st place in the middleweight division at the Tammer Tournament in Finland, final victory against Badou Jack
  • January 2005: 1st place in the middleweight division at Norway Box Cup in Norway, including Wins against Oliver Obradovic and Badou Jack
  • May 2006: 1st place in the light heavyweight division at the Ahmet Cömert tournament in Turkey, including Wins against Mehdi Ghorbani and Bahram Muzaffer
  • April 2007: 1st place in the light heavyweight division at the Klichko Brothers tournament in Ukraine, Final win against Abbo Atoyev
  • July 2007: 1st place in the light heavyweight division at the Makar Mazay tournament in Ukraine

Professional career

For his professional career, he emigrated to the United States and won his first fight on July 18, 2008 in Nevada by Ko in the first round. Also his next ten fights he could finish victorious, nine prematurely. On 3 April 2010 he won in Las Vegas North American championship of the NABF light heavyweight, by a knockout win in the second round against Daniel Judah, brother of boxing world champion Zab Judah multiple. The title he defended unanimously on March 4, 2011 on points against the undefeated Cuban Yordanis Despaigne.

In his second title defense on 27 April 2012 against the unbeaten Russian Denis Grachew, he had his opponent while in the third round on the ground, the battle but lost surprisingly in the eighth round by referee demolition (technical Ko) after even severe by several was hit to the ground.

On 30 November 2013 he boxed in Canada for the championship of the WBO light heavyweight, but lost in the second round by KO against the titleholder Sergei Kovalev.
