Ismat T. Kittani

Ismat Taha Kittani ( born April 5, 1929 in Amadia; † 23 October 2001 in Geneva, Switzerland ) was an Iraqi diplomat.

He joined the Foreign Service in 1952 and was from 1961 to 1964 Minister of his country at the United Nations in Geneva. From 1964 to 1975 he was an official at the United Nations and senior fellow of UN Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim. From 1980 to 1985 he was State Secretary at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry. During this time he was also President of the 36th UN General Assembly (1981 /82). He served from 1985 until his retirement in 1989 as Iraqi ambassador to the UN.

After that, he was an advisor to the Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar (1989-1991); later he was appointed by Boutros Boutros- Ghali as the Special Representative for Somalia. Also for Kofi Annan he was a consultant.
